MUXU & SOOT TRANSPORT
Bronx, NY to Scottsdale, AZ

Date: September 16, 2017

Muxu and Soot must be so confused. As kittens, they were rescued from the streets of NYC over five years ago. For those five years they lived happily as a part of Lissette's family. Then life took a turn.

Lissette was relocating her family to Arizona, and yes, this included Muxu and Soot. Kids, cats, and life in general, necessitated a carefully laid out plan to execute this move. While Lissette was getting out of her apartment, a week prior to getting on a plane, she depended on a friend to keep Muxu and Soot overnight. That friend called her the following day and told her they had ran away. Lissette sprang into action seeking her cats. She searched his neighborhood and put up posters. She went to her old neighborhood, in hopes they may have returned there, but still they could not be found. A week of searching and worrying only led to her having to get on a plane without them.

Skipping ahead, four days after arriving in Arizona, Lissette received a text from her friend saying that her cats had been stuck in the walls of his house the entire time. The whole time they were there they had been without food and water. This 'friend' refused to take them to the vet, and threatened to take them to the shelter unless Lissette forked out some cash. At this point, she knew it was imperative that the cats be taken away from him as soon as could be arranged. So, she found someone to pick them up, and take them to Northshore Animal Hospital, where they could be cared for and boarded until she could get them on a plane. This is when she learned that the airlines wouldn't put them in cargo in the heat of the summer. Her next option was putting them on a ground transport. Everyone she contacted wanted at least $3000. Then she found the IH Nation.

As you can imagine, funds are getting tight for Lissette, and she could no longer afford to board Muxu and Soot. So a friend, a true friend, in Brooklyn, pulled them out of boarding and is keeping them with her until we can get these kitties home to their family. Their kids miss them, the baby still looks for them, and Lissette will be heartbroken until they are back in her arms.

2500 miles is a lot of distance between family members, but we can get this family back together. It will take some doing, but I know we can do this. So c'mon Nation. Let's reunite these kitties with the family that so misses them.

Please, tempting as it is to disparage the person that allowed Muxu and Soot to stay hidden, and then refuse to help them, we hope that your attention can be focused on the positive. They have been found, they are well, and they will soon be home, with your help.

If you haven't already done so, and are helping to transport a cat, you MUST also be signed up on our database: www.imaginehome.org/wp/volunteer/driver-application-form/ (We wish to assure you that your private information is held in the strictest of confidence.) If we do not have your complete contact information no later than 72 hours before an event, we will be forced to use a Backup Transporter.

While the route itself is generally fixed, we leave it to our drivers to choose the best meeting place. This site will help you figure out what is in the area: www.exitexplorer.com/home.php. We do ask that you let your Transport Coordinator know your set location.

Your official run sheet will be sent out as soon as possible to all drivers on a transport; however, we know some drivers will wish to start planning meeting locations before it comes out.

When you sign up as a primary transporter, we encourage you to contact the driver of the leg on either side of you at your convenience to begin making plans. If you do not know that person, contact your transport coordinator who will be happy to put you in touch with each other.

Backup Transporters: until the day of the event, we will not know if you are needed. Additionally, emergencies CAN and MAY happen on the day of the event. We still expect you to be available if needed on Event Day.

Please remember when setting up meeting places and exchanging personal info that this event is posted on a public page. We ask, for your safety, that you do so in a private venue. Please be sure to exchange a vehicle description, and also pass this information to your Transport Coordinator.

*****PLEASE BE SURE TO READ OUR POLICY AND PROCEDURES FOR SAFE TRANSPORT*****

By signing up, you are agreeing that you have read and agree to the policies outlined on our Required Info for Transporters page: www.imaginehome.org/wp/volunteer/required-info-for-drivers/. You will want to be sure to have a "Transport Kit", containing bottled (or filtered) water, paper towels, pet safe wet wipes, and/or rags and towels for emergency cleanup needs. A more detail list of suggested supplies is also available on the Required Info for Transporters page.

What is Imagine Home?

Imagine Home assists with feline rescue, adoption, and transport by gathering and maintaining databases of contacts and information helpful to rescue.

Imagine Home came about by accident, or providence, ultimately through the tragedy of Jack the Cat. Click here for Jack’s story. We were brought together to form an organization to help rescued cats.

Our Immediate Vision: Assist adopters, fosters, transporters, and rescues in any way we can, through our volunteers and contacts. We encourage you to share your recommendations of individuals or groups to add to our network. You are the means for us to be able to do this.

We are working hard to keep our costs very low, however, there are some basic maintenance costs associated with operating our organization. If you’d like to make a tax-deductible donation, you may do so here:
