🚗 Transport Protocol – Imagine Home Inc.

At Imagine Home, the safety and comfort of everyone involved—humans and animals alike—are our top priorities. Please read the following protocol carefully before signing up for any transport.

📍 Preferred Meeting Locations

We strongly prefer that all pet hand-offs occur in public places (e.g., parking lots, parks, or other neutral and safe locations).
If a transfer must occur at a private residence, please notify Imagine Home in advance and receive approval.

✅ Participation Agreement

By signing up for a transport, you acknowledge that you:

  • Understand and agree to follow the Transport Protocol.

  • Will not participate if you are uncomfortable with any part of the procedure—we completely understand and respect that.

  • Agree that, if you are a foster or adopter requesting a transport, your request implies acceptance of this protocol.

Imagine Home Inc., including its officers, Board of Directors, administrators, and volunteers, will not be held responsible for:

  • Any illness, injury, or damages that may occur during the transport process.

You must provide a cell phone. If you do not own a cell phone, you must borrow one or drive with someone who has one. Please provide that number here. A situation could arise during a transport and we must be able to get ahold of you and you, us.

We WILL set up a group text on each day of transport - However, recently drivers have informed us, they are not getting group text messages because some mobile devices do not support messages coming from iPhone, we encourage all drivers to join the event. There will be updates posted in BOTH group text and in the event on the days of transport. Please DO let us know if your phone is an I-phone or Android, for our planning purposes.

We may contact you to verify your information, or if there are transports in your area.
Availability
Check all that generally fit your schedule. *Note- We generally transport on weekends only, however there are occasions that arise where we need drivers on a weekday.
Vehicle capacity
Do you have a valid driver’s license?

Overnight Host/Foster- please note that foster cat(s) MUST be kept separate from your own animals.
At times we need an Overnight Rest Stop during transport. We also occasionally need fosters willing to host a KITTY for a week or longer, either for longer distance transports or while transport is being prepared. If able to offer an overnight or longer stay for a KITTY - please check all that apply.

Emergency Rest Stop

 

In rare situations, we may need a safe, temporary place for a kitty to stay due to an emergency (such as severe weather, unexpected transport delays, safety concerns, or other unforeseen circumstances). This would be for the kitty only—no people.

Mutual Respect for Drivers & Kitties*

At Imagine Home, the safety and well-being of both our volunteers and the cats in our care are our highest priorities. By volunteering with us, you agree to follow the policies below.

Respect & Communication

  • Treat all drivers, transport coordinators (TCs), fosters, and volunteers with courtesy and respect.
  • Harsh exchanges, foul language, name-calling, harassment, or disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated.
  • If you experience or witness inappropriate behavior, please notify your Transport Coordinator (TC) or contact Imagine Home immediately so the situation can be addressed.

Phone Availability

  • Keep your phone charged, on, and easily accessible until your transport leg is complete.
  • Transport schedules often change due to traffic, weather, or other unforeseen circumstances. Coordinators and connecting drivers must be able to reach you throughout your leg.

Smoking, Alcohol & Vaping

  • Smoking, vaping, and consuming alcohol during your transport are strictly prohibited.
  • Many cats are highly sensitive or allergic to cigarette smoke and vape residue, which can cause unnecessary stress or respiratory irritation.

Transporting Additional Animals

  • Do not transport any additional animals during an Imagine Home transport.
  • If you travel with a certified service animal, you must notify your Transport Coordinator before your trip.
  • Cats being fostered—even for only an hour—must always be kept completely separate from your own pets.

Foster & Transport Safety

Transport can be stressful, and a cat's behavior may change during the journey.

  • Stay in regular communication with your Transport Coordinator regarding any concerns or unusual behavior.
  • Report immediately if a cat appears ill, overly stressed, lethargic, is panting excessively, breathing rapidly, escapes, or displays aggressive behavior.

Indoor-Only Policy

All cats in Imagine Home's care must remain indoors at all times.

  • Ensure any open windows are securely screened.
  • Never allow a transported or foster cat outdoors under any circumstances.
  • When moving a cat between your vehicle and a building, the cat must remain securely inside its carrier or transport crate at all times.

Adoption Off Transport

Removing a cat from transport before it reaches its designated final destination without authorization constitutes theft and will be reported to the appropriate law enforcement authorities.

Anyone who removes a cat from transport without authorization will also be permanently removed from Imagine Home's driver program and may be placed on widely shared "Do Not Transport" lists used throughout the rescue community.

Transport Monitoring

Every Imagine Home transport is actively monitored.

Please:

  • Check in when you pick up your transport.
  • Notify your coordinator when your leg is complete.
  • Let your coordinator know once you have safely returned home whenever possible.

The safety of our volunteers is just as important to us as the safety of the cats.

Policy Violations

Failure to follow these policies may result in immediate removal from Imagine Home's driver database.

If anything occurs during your transport that causes concern—including, but not limited to:

  • A cat panting or breathing rapidly
  • Illness or injury
  • Escape attempts
  • Vehicle problems or delays
  • Lack of communication from another driver
  • Unsafe conditions
  • Rude or inappropriate behavior

Volunteer Agreement

By clicking "Agree," you acknowledge that you have read, understand, and agree to comply with all Imagine Home transport policies and procedures. Your commitment helps ensure the safety of our volunteers and provides every cat with the best possible journey to their new beginning.
